‘E’ IS FOR EGYPT,
A SQUARE SHAPED LAND
‘G’ IS FOR THE GOLDEN ANKH
IN THE PHARAOH’S HAND
‘Y’ IS FOR YELLOW
THE COLOUR OF THE HOT SAND
‘P’ IS FOR THE PYRAMIDS
MADE OF LIMESTONE CUT
‘T’ IS FOR TUT-AN-KAMEN
ALSO KNOWN AS KING TUT.
TOGETHER WE SPELL ‘EGYPT’
GIFT OF THE NILE
Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I)
Chorus:
EGYPT, HOME OF THE PYRAMIDS
EGYPT, GIFT OF THE NILE
COME LET’S TAKE A TRIP, WE’RE GOING DOWN THE NILE
THE LONGEST RIVER IN THE WORLD, WE’LL BE GONE FOR QUITE AWHILE.
WE’RE GOING TO SEE THE PYRAMIDS OF LONG, LONG AGO
TO THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS, AND THE GREAT PHARAOHS.
Chorus
THE SPHINX LOOKS LIKE A LION, BUT IT HAS A HUMAN FACE
IT WAS BUILT TO GUARD THE PYRAMIDS, TO PROTECT A SACRED PLACE.
A PHARAOH MIGHT BE A DADDY, WHEN HE IS ALIVE,
BUT HE TURNS IN TO A MUMMY, AFTER HE DIES,
Chorus
A MUMMY IS WRAPPED IN CLOTH, AND PUT IN TO A COFFIN,
THE COFFIN HAS A SPECIAL NAME, IT’S CALLED A SARCOPHAGUS
THE MUMMIFIED PHARAOH, IS PUT IN TO A SPECIAL ROOM
INSIDE A PYRAMID, A ROOM THEY CALL A TOMB.
Chorus
LET’S MAKE A MUMMY
Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I)
LET’S MAKE A MUMMY, FIRST WE TAKE OUT THE TUMMY
THEN WE PULL OUT THE BRAIN THROUGH THE NOSE WITH A FORK
WE LEAVE ALONE THE HEART, BUT NOW WE MUST START
TO TAKE OUT THE STOMACH, THE LIVER AND THE LUNGS.
THEN WE UNTWINE THE LONG INTESTINE,
DRY UP ALL THE ORGANS WITH NATRON SALT
WRAP ‘EM ALL UP INTO CANOPIC JARS
THEN COVER EACH JAR WITH THE HEAD OF A GOD
NOW THE BODY WE MUST BATHE IN SALT FOR 4O DAYS
THEN SAWDUST, SAND OR CLOTH WE STUFF INSIDE.
SING ALONG WITH THE CHORUS, LET THE EYE OF HORUS
PROTECT THE BODY AS WE RUB IT WITH OIL.
IT WON’T COME TO ANY HARM, WE’VE PUT LOTS OF LUCKY CHARMS
IN BETWEEN THE LINEN BANDAGES WRAPPED AROUND TIGHT.
BEFORE IT GOES IN THE CASKET WE MUST MAKE A MASK OF
GOLD OR PLASTER, WITH A PAINTED ON FACE.
NOW WE’RE LAUGHIN’ THE BODY’S IN THE COFFIN
PUT IT IN TO THE SARCOPHAGUS AND SEAL IT UP TIGHT.
I’VE JUST MADE A MUMMY, THINK I BETTER FILL MY TUMMY
‘CAUSE I AM QUITE HUNGRY
SO, I’LL SAY GOODNIGHT !
OLD KINGDOM NARRATION
Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I)
About 5000 years ago King Menes united Upper and Lower Egypt. The two crowns
were connected as one. King Menes established the first dynasty. The old kingdom
lasted up until the 10th dynasty. It is known as the pyramid age. Most of the pyramids
still in Egypt today were built during this time, between 2680 and 2130 BC. King
Zoser (Djoser) built the first step pyramid at Saqqarah. The largest and most
well-known pyramids, the pyramids of Giza, were built during the old kingdom by
King Khufu.
Life in Egypt was good. Everyone had an important job to do. Each year, when the Nile flooded, farmers and other workers
were hired to work on building the pyramids. Let’s hear the story of how to build a pyramid.
LOOK AT MY PYRAMID
Fingerplay by Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I)
LOOK AT MY PYRAMID, POINTING TO THE SKY
(make a pyramid with fingers)
SEE MY CROOK AND FLAIL, HELD UP HIGH
(each curved pointer finger up in the air)
HERE IS MY CROWN, I AM A PHARAOH
(hands on top to head, fingers up like a crown)
I LIVED IN ANCIENT EGYPT, LONG LONG AGO
(make pyramid once again)
ANCIENT THEBES
(Gary Huntbatch)
Chorus:
Ancient Thebes now (called) named Luxor
Home of the valley of the Kings and Queens
Home of the valley of the Kings and Queens
The whole of the west bank at Luxor
Is honeycombed with tombs
Many Temples and a Palace
With mortuary rooms
The ruins of a villiage
Where tomb decorators lived
And the many craftsmen
Who built statues & monuments
Chorus
All the tombs are numbered so we will not forget
The many people buried there some are famous some are not
Kings and Queens and noblemen their families and Priests
But to qualify for a tomb first you had to be deceased….(your dead right)
The palace built at Luxor Amun was worshipped as their god
Was built to honour Amenhotep Each Pharaoh his son would be
Each temple honoured a king or queen A yearly celebration honoured this
Some were good but some were mean Called the Beautiful feast of the valley
Chorus
THE MIDDLE KINGDOM
At the end of the old kingdom the ruling Pharaohs were weak. The Egyptian
people were suffering. Mentuhotep, made Thebes the new capital. He was able to
unite the people and make Egypt strong once again. This we call the middle kingdom,
2130 to 1560 BC, covering the 11th to the 17th dynasties.
The Pharaohs, Amenemhet, Senusret , Amenemhet the 3rd and Senusret
the 3rd helped restore Egypt’s wealth and power. Egyptian influence
expanded to other lands. Near the end of the middle kingdom Egypt became weak once
again and was invaded and conquered by the Hyksos.
The Egyptians were very creative during the time of the Middle Kingdom. They built massive temples, created many beautiful works of art and designed dazzling
jewelry. They invented and developed many things that we still use in modern times. They also developed a style of writing called Hieroglyphics. Special students called ‘Scribes’ were taught to write the hieroglyphics.
The Ancient Egyptians believed in many Gods. They had a God for the sky, a God
for the Sun, a God for Water, even a God for the Scribes who wrote the hieroglyphics.

NEW KINGDOM NARRATION
The new kingdom covers the 18th to the 20th dynasties, 1560 to 1085 BC. During this time Egypt became the world’s strongest power. Egyptian kings became more aggressive. They developed new military techniques, such as the horse drawn chariots. They conquered many new lands. But this aggression would ultimately lead to their downfall.
The Pharaoh, AKHENATEN, was less aggressive. He focused more on changing old Egyptian religious practices. He wanted the people to worship only one God. This
distraction enabled people from other countries to start making attacks upon Egypt. The Pharaohs Seti and Ramses the 2nd were able to restore some order and balance for awhile. And Tutankamen, whom we know as King Tut, brought back the old religious practices with the many Gods once again.
However,Egypt was doomed. After the 20th dynasties Egypt was ruled by kings who came from other lands. First, the Egyptians were conquered by the Assyrians, then the Persians, then Alexander the Great, from Macedonia. Alexander the Great was succeeded by his General, named Ptolemy. The Ptolemy line ruled Egypt for 300 peaceful years. Cleopatra, also a Macedonian, joined with Marc Anthony to try to fight off the Romans, but lost the battle and Egypt became part of the Roman Empire in 31 BC.

THE CAT, THE CAT, THE FURRY LITTLE KITTY
BUT EGYPTIAN CATS WERE MUCH MORE THAN THAT.
NOT TO HARM A KITTY WAS THE LAW OF THE LAND
THEY WERE TREATED WITH RESPECT DO YOU UNDERSTAND
EGYPTIANS WORSHIPPED THE FELINE AS A GODDESS
THEY ASKED THEM FOR PROTECTION OR FOR A GOOD HARVEST
WHEN SOMEONE DIED THERE WOULD BE LOTS OF ROOM
FOR THEIR MUMMIFIED KITTY WITH THEM IN THEIR TOMB
WHEN SOMEONE DIED THERE WOULD BE LOTS OF ROOM
FOR THEIR MUMMIFIED KITTY WITH THEM IN THEIR TOMB.
Chorus: SO, THE KITTY THE CAT (THE KITTY THE CAT)
NOT THE ONE IN THE HAT (NOT THE ONE IN THE HAT)

SHE KILLED A SERPENT WITH HER CLAWS DID THE GODDESS MAFDET
A CAT-HEADEAD WOMAN WAS THE GODDESS BASTET
SHE WAS THE GODDESS OF PLEASURE, BIRTH AND FERTILITY

THE GODDESS OF EVIL, SEKHEMET THEY NAMED HER
OVER ALL THINGS BAD LIKE PESTILENCE AND WAR
WHEN WORSHIPPED TOGETHER WITH GODDESS BASTET
THEY WERE THE BALANCE OF NATURE, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT,
WHEN WORSHIPPED TOGETHER WITH GODDESS BASTET
THEY WERE THE BALANCE OF NATURE, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT.

BUILDING A PYRAMID
Gary Huntbatch
Gary goes back in time to be there as they build the first pyramid.
Rather than using the traditional story of cutting the limestone blocks with chisels and hammers,
wetting the wooden chisels so that the limestone will crack, bringing the blocks across the Nile on boats, then dragging the blocks across the sand and putting them in to place with ropes and much human muscle….
Gary presents a different idea on how the pyramids were built.
It all happened so long ago and is still shrouded in mystery.
We hope you enjoy this story!
